WinNUT is a lightweight Windows client for the Network UPS Tools (NUT) ecosystem. It connects to a NUT server (upsd) over the network to monitor UPS status and can initiate a clean shutdown of Windows during power events, such as prolonged outages or low battery. This makes it useful in mixed environments where a Linux/BSD machine manages the UPS and Windows systems need to follow the same monitoring and shutdown policies.

Key features:

  • Monitors UPS metrics (line power, battery level, runtime, load) via a NUT server
  • System tray status indicator and optional notifications
  • Can run as a Windows service for unattended, graceful shutdowns
  • Simple configuration for UPS host, credentials, and actions
  • Open-source and resource‑efficient

Notes:

  • WinNUT is a client only; it relies on an existing NUT server connected to the UPS
  • UPS compatibility depends on what the NUT server supports
  • Suitable for workstations or servers that need coordinated shutdown behavior in NUT-managed setups
